A Demopolis woman was jailed on multiple charges after leading police on a chase through much of the northeast part of Demopolis Tuesday night.

Dorothy Jean Wesley, 52, of Demopolis, faces charges of second-degree criminal mischief, attempting to elude police and reckless endangerment after she failed to yield when Det. Sgt. Tim Soronen tried to stop her for speeding, DPD interim Chief Tim Williams said.

“I don’t know where she thought she was going,” he said. “But she was trying.”

Wesley led police a winding trail from U.S. Highway 80 through multiple streets near downtown before finally taking U.S. 43 North toward Eutaw. But police trapped Wesley on the other side of the bridge and arrested her.

A Demopolis police cruiser was slightly damaged in the chase.
