Local chapter gets DAV transport vehicle

The Marengo County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 31 received its transport vehicle for area veterans.

The vehicle was one of seven donated by the Ford Motor Company last August at the annual DAV convention in Las Vegas, Nev. The Department of Alabama DAV received the vehicle and transferred it to the Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The vehicle was designated to transport veterans from the Demopolis area to the VA medical center for appointments. The service may add Eutaw and Greensboro as pick-up points when the schedule is established. Veterans wanting to use the vehicle to get to and from appointments at the Tuscaloosa VA medical center should call DAV hospital service coordinator Annie Byrd at (205) 554-2873.

During the last several months, Lee Belcher, Margie Belcher and Luther Massey Jr. completed the requirements to become volunteer drivers for the program, but there is a need for more volunteer drivers. Those wanting to serve as volunteer drivers should call Lee Belcher at (334) 289-1251.
