Baseball Longhorns beat Escambia

Marengo Academy (8-3, 3-0) took both ends of a double-header from region foe Escambia Tuesday afternoon, winning the first game 3-1 and the second 19-6.

In the first contest of the day, the Longhorns got five and a third innings of solid work from Michael Martin, who struck out six and scattered four hits during his time on the mound. With one out in the sixth, he gave way to Matt Etheridge, who closed out the win with an inning and two-thirds of scoreless work.

Weldon Fultz put together a strong game out of the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Chris Sammons went 1-for-2 with a run and a pair of walks. Jacob Dunn was 2-for-4 with a run and three stolen bases. Etheridge, Wood Collins and Jamey Clements each had an RBI in the contest. In the second game, the Longhorns acted as the visiting team to satisfy their season requirement against EA, scoring nine runs in the sixth to put the game away.
