The University of West Alabama National Alumni Association invites all alumni and friends to a pregame tailgate party Saturday, Aug. 28 from 5-6:30 p.m. as the Tigers open the season against Shorter College in the RockTenn Classic at 7 p.m. at the Demopolis High School stadium.

Hosted by the Marengo County Alumni Chapter, the tailgate party near the stadium’s west entrance will feature barbecue dinners at a cost of $2 for National Alumni Association members and $5 for other guests. The NAA will also have a membership drive, encouraging graduates to join the organization and take advantage of the benefits. Join the NAA at the tailgate for the $25 yearly membership fee and enjoy a complimentary meal.

“This is going to be an exciting year for UWA football, and the National Alumni Association has events planned throughout the season to bring our graduates and friends together to support the Tigers,” said TyAnne Stone, director of alumni affairs. “We hope everyone will join us in Demopolis. Don’t forget to wear your red and white!”

UWA enters the 2010 season with recognition in four preseason national polls, ranking 12th in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Poll and the USA Today Poll, 23rd in the Lindy’s poll, and 24th in the Sporting News Preseason Top 25. UWA was also selected second by the Gulf South Conference head coaches’ preseason poll, marking the team’s highest preseason ranking since 1976.
