Marengo Academy wasted little time dispatching of Clarke Prep for the fourth time this season Friday when it put together an 11-0 romp in the AISA Area Crossover at the Sports Plex.

The Lady Longhorns scored three runs in the first inning, six in the second, one in the third and one in the fifth to ice the win, handing themselves the top seed out of Region 2 in the upcoming state tournament.

“We jumped on them pretty early,” Marengo Academy head coach Danny Stenz said.

The offensive output was more than enough to back the pitching efforts of UWA signee Jessica Brock, who struck out five batters in three hitless innings of work.

“Any time we put Jessica on the mound and we get a couple runs, I feel good,” Stenz said of his starting pitcher.

Brock handed the ball over to eighth grader Andrea Edmonds to close the game. Edmonds struck out three and walked one over to innings to close out the five-frame combined no-hitter.

Destiny Huckabee went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases in the game.

Chandler Stenz went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Katie Tucker went 1-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored.

Jessica Brock went 1-or-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored. Nicole Langley went 1-for-2 with an RBI while Ally Vick went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Reesa Holifiled, Jaime Johnson and Caitlin Moore each scored a run in the contest.

The Lady Longhorns will play Lee-Scott Academy Monday in a double header at Huntingdon College in Montgomery before hosting Kingwood next Saturday to wrap up the regular season.
