Demopolis dominates Wilcox-Central

CAMDEN — Demopolis (3-1, 3-0) hung 42 points on the board in the first half on the way to a 56-21 win over Wilcox-Central Friday night.

Tiger sophomore Demetrius Kemp bookended the evening with the first and last touchdowns of the game for Demopolis, opening the scoring with an eight-yard run and closing it with a 98-yard kickoff return. He also blocked a punt on the night.

Demopolis upped its first quarter lead to 14-0 when Tyler Merriweather recovered a fumble in the end zone. Quarterback Tucker Jones later tucked the ball away for a 51-yard scoring run to give Demopolis a 21-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Jones went to the air for three scores. He hit Jerry Campbell on scoring passes of 13 and 33 yards before finding Wesley Anderson on a nine-yard scoring toss to send Demopolis to the locker room with a 42-9 lead.

The Tigers did not score in the third quarter but saw Cortez Lewis return a punt 25 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter before Kemp capped the scoring with his kickoff return.

Jones finished the night 6-of-9 through the air for 129 yards and three touchdowns. Tre Dotson rushed for 113 yards on 11 carries. Campbell had three catches for 72 yards and two scores.

Anderson recorded seven tackles to lead the team. Pierre Thomas had five tackles, two pass breakups, a fumble recovery and an interception.

Demopolis plays again next Friday night when it hosts rival Thomasville.
