Katie Windham, Marengo County’s Distinguished Young Women’s Chairman, said that the program is designed to help girls in Marengo County get help with college tuition.

“We are trying to reach out to girls in the county,” Windham said, “so they can receive help for college.”

Applicants will compete in several categories including fitness, public speaking, interview, scholastics and a 90-second on-stage talent. Participants will be eligible for more than $8,000 in scholarships for college.

“We are looking for well-rounded girls,” Windham said, “but we believe that everybody willing to participate has something to offer.”

For those who apply, the program requires a time commitment, as there are six weeks of practice leading up to the Sept. 22 program.

There will be an orientation session on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at Robertson Banking Company’s main office in Demopolis

Tickets for the program are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
