Herschell Lee Ghio, 85, of Demopolis died Monday, Aug. 6 at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

He was born Nov. 6, 1926, in Ragland to Ike and Marnie Edge Ghio.

He graduated from the University of Alabama with a Civil Engineering degree, and was a veteran of WWII.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Isaac (Ike) and Marnie Ghio; wife, Geneva Yelverton Ghio; and his grandson, Andrew Lee Hand, killed in action in Afghanistan in 2010.

He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (Jerry) Parris of Gulf Shores and Jesse Lavon of Demopolis; five grandchildren, Dusty (Regan) Adams Walker, Amber Adams Hewitt, Phillip Pittman III, Amanda Pittman and Laura (Wes) Hand Davis; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He professed his faith in our Lord and is celebrating never-ending life in Heaven.
