Mayfield Jefferson Richards, 74, of Greensboro died Thursday, Sept. 6 in his home.

He was born on April 9, 1948, in Lamar County to the late William Jefferson and Evie Lou Mayfield Richards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Jefferson and Evie Lou Mayfield Richards; and his son, Thomas Edward Richards.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Laura Sue Thomas Richards; his daughter, Laurie Ann (Eddie) Gibson Pierce of Marion; his son, William Mayfield (Melanie) Richards of Pondville; his sister, Zora Bellamy of Alatoona, Pa.; his daighter-in-law, Carol Richards of Pondville; his nephew, Cary (Jo Anne) Bellamy of Charlotte, N.C.; his niece, Elizabeth (Dean) Sutherland of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and four grandchildren, Holly Richards, Victoria Richards, Breanna Richards and Gabrielle Richards.

The funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Dee McGuire officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10-10:45 a.m. before the service.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Osburn, Tommy Washburn, Frederick Thomas, Albert Rogers, Kenneth Justice and Donald Perkins.
