The University of West Alabama has been named among the fastest growing campuses between 2000 and 2010 by The Chronicle of Higher Education.

In the publication’s 2012-13 almanac, the Chronicle ranks UWA number two on its list of fasting growing public master’s institutions.

The listing compares institutions’ Fall 2000 and Fall 2010 enrollment figures to determine the increase each institution has experienced. UWA’s enrollment increased from 1,924 to 5,094 over the 10-year period, a 164.8 percent increase. This increase is second only to that of Florida Gulf Coast University, 227.9 percent.

With a campus growing to accommodate its increasing number of on-campus students, the University has also seen growth in its highly reputable online education programs.

“Much of UWA’s recent growth is attributable to the success of its online offerings, particularly the master’s and education specialist degree programs in a wide range of areas. The University’s online program has been a pacesetter in the field of distance education, providing the same rigor and integrity as an on-campus experience,” said UWA Provost David M. Taylor.
