The Linden City Council named a member to the city board of education Tuesday night.
Robert Alston, a Linden police officer, was nominated and voted in by the council.
City Administrator Cheryl Hall also announced her retirement, effective Nov. 2. If the new administration wishes, she will remain in that position as an interim until the new year.
In other business, the council did the following:
• Approved to have fireworks at this year’s ChiLLy Fest.
• Surplus three vehicles seized by the police department in a drug raid in 2009 for the proceeds to go to the drug department of the police department.
• Canvassed the provisional ballots from the run-off election. There were five, and all five votes were for Charles Moore.
• Reappointed Jerry Gaddy to the Utility Board.
