He could be your next-door neighbor or your baseball coach. She could be your Sunday school teacher or your Girl Scout leader. Who are we talking about?

The 2012 St. Nicholas is a Demopolis resident who best portrays the spirit of Christmas all year long. He or she is someone who brightens your day when you see them or goes the extra mile when you need a little boost. This person is someone who has made a positive impact on your life or the lives of your children.

The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce and the Christmas on the River Committee are seeking nominations for this year’s 2012 St. Nicholas.

“There is no greater compliment than for someone to sit down and write a letter of recommendation on your behalf,” said Chamber director Jenn Tate. “All of us know someone who has made a difference in our community. Take a few minutes and write a letter of recommendation on behalf of someone who has made a lasting impression on you.”

The crowning of St. Nicholas event will be held on Thursday, Nov. 29 in the Demopolis Public Square at 5:30 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Demopolis Civic Center.

In addition to the crowning of St. Nicholas, Trinity Episcopal Church rector J.D. Barnes will read the Christmas story, Mayor Mike Grayson will countdown the lighting of the public square and children of Demopolis will have the Lantern Light Parade.

“It is a fun filled evening honoring people that help make Demopolis the wonderful community that it is,” Tate said.

Nominations must be submitted in written form and received by the Chamber of Commerce no later than Nov. 15. Make sure to sign the letter. Nominations without signatures cannot be accepted. Send letters to P.O. Box 667, Demopolis, AL 36732; fax to 289-1382; drop one off at the Chamber at 102 E Washington St; or email your nomination to demopchamber@yahoo.com
