LIVINGSTON – On the heels of strong finishes in football, cross country and soccer, the University of West Alabama leads the Gulf South Conference Men’s All-Sports Trophy standings following the completion of fall sports. The Tigers are seventh in the women’s standings.

“This is a testament to how hard our student-athletes and coaches are working to keep our programs at the forefront of the Gulf South Conference,” UWA Director of Athletics Stan Williamson said. “We are positive that after spring sports are completed we will climb toward the top of the women’s rankings as well.”

West Alabama won the GSC in football, finished second in cross country and third in soccer on the way to leading the men’s standings after fall sports. The UWA women finished seventh in cross country and volleyball and fifth in soccer.

One point is awarded for each finish in the league standings. Since five teams compete in GSC football, West Alabama was awarded five points for that sport. UWA leads with 13.5 points, followed by Christian Brothers (9), Alabama-Huntsville (8), West Florida (7.5), Valdosta State (7), Delta State (5.5), North Alabama (4) and West Georgia (3.5)

West Florida is atop the current women’s standings with 23 points, followed by UAH (17), UNA (14.5), West Georgia (13.5), Valdosta State (9.5), Christian Brothers (8), UWA (7.5) and Delta State (7).

The discrepancy in total points between women’s and men’s sports is a result of only five GSC members fielding teams in football and men’s soccer.
