James Blackburn Payne Jr., 86, of Demopolis died Sunday, Dec. 30 at his home.

He was born Oct. 25, 1926. He was a former gas truck driver and a member of the Fairhaven Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Avis Payne, and his son Jimmy Payne.

He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Davis of Demopolis; grandchildren, Ashley (Chris) Petrey and Rob Davis of Demopolis; great-grandchildren, Bailey Petrey, Macey Petrey, Davis Petrey, Bayne Petrey and Camdon Davis, all of Demopolis.

Visitation will be held at Fairhaven Baptist Church on Wednesday, Jan. 2 from 1-2 p.m. The service will be at 2 p.m. with Dr. Allen Atkins and the Rev. Scott Stevens officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel UMC Cemetery in Greensboro.

Active pallbearers will be Tommy Tait, Milton Murray, Stuart Waldrop, David Payne, Lynn Thomason and Chris Petrey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Red Hall, Dixie Pipe Line, Past Co-Workers of Thermogas/Mapco, Southern Care Hospice, Linde McAdams, Dr. Ronnie Chu and Chu Clinic, Tom Boggs and Dr. Paul Ketcham.
