UWA football adds two more signees

LIVINGSTON – The University of West Alabama football team added two junior college players to the 2013 signing class today with the signatures of defensive lineman Jared Washington and offensive lineman Christian Chalmers.

With Washington and Chalmers the 2012 Gulf South Conference champions have now inked 17 offensive or defensive linemen in the last two days. The total number of players signed by coach Will Hall and his staff now stands at 30.

Following are biographies of the two players:

Jared Washington – Defensive Lineman … 6-2, 305 … Coahoma (Miss.) Community College

Played prep football at Lanett High School … as a senior in high school he totaled 80 combined tackles, seven sacks, 15 tackles for loss, four fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles … in 2008 and LHS he recorded 96 tackles and 11 sacks … named 2A All-State First Team and All-Area defensive lineman.

Christian Chalmers – Offensive Lineman 6-5, 325, Northwest Mississippi Community College

Earned MACJC First Team All-State honors … helped anchor an offensive line that paved the way for 425.9 yards-per-game, including 190 ypg on the ground with 23 touchdowns. Northwest rushed for 200 or more in four games … played at Olive Branch (Miss.) High School.
