DHS band wins honors, readies for Sunday concert

Earlier this month, two members of the Demopolis High School Band participated in the annual University of Montevallo Honor Band and took high honors.

Austin Williamson earned First Chair Tuba in the Gold Band and Andrea Noland earned Fourth Chair Alto Saxophone.

The Montevallo Honor Band is comprised of students from all over the state of Alabama that come together to rehearse and perform a concert in the time span of one weekend.

On Friday, March 1, the Demopolis Concert Band participated in a concert band festival hosted by the Flying Bricks Community Band of Thomasville. The band is made up of students from Demopolis middle and high schools.

The band traveled to Jackson High School to perform and was awarded Superior Ratings. Their program was: “Ascend” by Samuel Hazo, “On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss” by David Holsinger and “Kentucky 1800” by Clare Grundman

Those three selections, along with several others, will be performed for the public at the band’s annual Mid-Spring Concert and Lunchbox Dinner Auction on Sunday, March 17, 2013, which will begin at 3 p.m. at the DHS Auditorium. Admission is free.
