County track teams perform well at state meets

The Linden, Marengo and A.L. Johnson track teams were at the 1A-3A state meet last weekend in Selma, and all of them had athletes place in the competition.

The Linden High School boys had the best showing of the Marengo County teams, finishing second overall in the Class 1A standings. The Linden boys that placed in the meet were:

•Anthony Robinson – 100-meter dash; First place, 11.41 seconds

•Marquis Shelton – 200-meter dash; Seventh place, 24.3 seconds

•Cordarius Scruggs – 110-meter hurdles; Third place, 16.95 seconds

•Scruggs – 300-meter hurdles; Seventh place, 44.81 seconds

•4×100-meter relay team; First place, 44.89 seconds

•4×400-meter relay team; Fifth place, 3:47.32

•4×800-meter relay team; Sixth place; 9:34.80

•Kynard Craig – high jump; Fourth place, 5-feet, 10-inches

•Jamal Lewis – triple jump; Third place, 41-feet

•Chris Rogers – shot put; First place, 44-feet, 6-inches

•Shelton – discus throw; Fourth place, 126-feet, 3-inches

•Rogers – discus throw; seventh place, 107-feet

The Patriots boys team earned 65 points overall, which was second behind Falkville, who earned 106 points.

The Linden girls finished 11th overall with 25 points in the girls 1A meet. The girls who placed were:

•Alexis Johnson – 300-meter hurdles; Second place, 47.8 seconds

•Tomysha Boykins – 300-meter hurdles; Seventh place, 50.52 seconds

•4×100-meter relay team; First place, 52.17 seconds

•4×400-meter relay team; Fourth place, 4:36.92

The Marengo High School girls team finished 12th overall in the 1A meet with 22 points overall. Their top finishers were:

•Keondra Bouler – 200-meter dash; Sixth place, 29.09 seconds

•Keishelle Clarke – 200-meter dash; Seventh place, 29.12 seconds

•Bouler – 400-meter dash; Third place, 1:01.87

•4×100-meter relay team; Fourth place, 54.25 seconds

•4×400-meter relay team; Third place, 4:30.07

A.L. Johnson had one athlete place at the meet, and that was Ladarius Carr in the boys long jump with a distance of 19-feet, 1.5-inches.

The Demopolis High School track team competed in the state meet in Gulf Shores over the weekend, and they had two athletes placed in the competition.

Rodney Harper finished seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.97 seconds. Tommy Wilson finished tied for eighth in the high jump with a jump of 5-feet, 8-inches.
