LIVINGSTON – The West Alabama fall sports schedules have been released for the 2013 men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball seasons.
Women’s soccer will open its third season with non-conference foe Judson College at home on Sept. 5. They will then hit the road with a grueling-eight game road stretch before returning home to for a four-game home stand beginning Oct. 6. The Tigers close out the regular season against defending national champion West Florida on Nov. 1.
After a 12-6 overall record and third place conference finish in its inaugural season, the men’s soccer team will kick off the 2013 season against the 2012 American Southwest Conference Champion, Mississippi College at home on Sept. 6. Other non-conference opponents include Peach Belt Conference runner-up Montevallo on the road on Sept. 10 and Oakwood College at home on Oct. 6. Men’s soccer will also close out its regular season against 2012 Conference Champion West Florida on Nov. 1.
The West Alabama volleyball team will take to the court for the first time under new head coach Jordan Lay in 2013. Lay brings with him nine new faces to a squad of only five returning letter winners. The Tigers open the season on the road in the West Georgia Tournament in Carrollton, Ga., beginning on Sept. 6, quickly followed by the Arkansas-Monticello Tournament in Monticello, Ark., which starts on Sept. 13.
UWA Volleyball opens its home schedule on Sept. 24 against Valdosta State and will close out the regular season against defending conference champion West Florida on Nov. 15.
All three teams will usher in newly added Gulf South Conference opponent Lee University. However, Lee, Shorter and Union will continue to be ineligible to contend for a GSC title this season.
