Demopolis First United Methodist welcomes new pastorBy Mary Catherine Goodwin Published 1:54pm Friday, July 12, 2013
Demopolis First United Methodist Church recently welcomed its new pastor, David Willis, to the community.
Willis, a native of Dothan, was most recently senior pastor at Highland Park United Methodist Church in his hometown, where he served for five years.
He has also served as pastor of Newton United Methodist Church, chaplain for the Dothan Police Department and a registered nurse at HealthSouth and Flowers Hospital in Dothan.
Willis earned an associate’s degree in applied nursing from Wallace State Community College in 1994. He returned to school in 2001 and received a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing from Auburn University at Montgomery.
After finishing at AUM, he attended Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky., where he received his master’s degree in 2006.
Willis and his family moved to Demopolis at the end of June. His wife, Phyllis, is a family nurse practitioner at The Chu Clinic.
Willis’ oldest son, Christopher, is a second-year law student at The University of Alabama, and his youngest son, Sam, will enter his freshman year at Demopolis High School this fall.
“We are delighted to be here,” said Willis, “The staff at the church is phenomenal, and they have been a tremendous help with me and my family. They’ve truly held my family’s hand and walked us through this town.”
