James Edwards of Brooklyn, N.Y., a native of Jefferson, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 5.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 13 at noon at the Moscow Baptist Church in Demopolis. The Rev. Timothy Paige officiated, and interment followed in the Moscow Baptist Church cemetery.

He is survived by his loving mother, Roberta Edwards of Demopolis; a companion of 35 years, Johnnie Mae Phoenix of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three daughters, Jackie Edwards, Vanesta (Sam) Dorch of Queens, N.Y., and Charlotte (Hadfield) Clarke of New Jersey; seven children he reared, Phoebe, Angela, Lorita, Larry and Kenneth Phoenix of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Carl and Fay Phoenix of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sisters, Gloria (John) Rowser of Gallion, Florine (Kent) Simmons, Cassandra Edwards and Maggie Edwards of Demopolis; six brothers, Pollis (Elnora) Edwards of Demopolis, Oliver Edwards of Cleveland, Ohio, Lorenzo (Donna) Edwards of Foster, Carl (Gracie) Edwards of Forkland, Ronnie Edwards of Demopolis, and Durand Edwards of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of neices, nephews, other relatives and friends.
