Lula B. Merriweather, a native of Sumter County and lifelong residence of Jefferson, departed this life and met her eternal rest on Thursday Aug. 1, at Bryan Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

She leaves to cherish her memory a beloved husband, Wilmer “Sonny” Merriweather of Jefferson; two daughters, Weltha M. Rutland of Grand Island, N.Y., and Patricia Woods of Forkland; five sons, Wilmer “Buck” (Emily) Merriweather Jr., of Great Falls, Mont., Walter W. Merriweather of Three Rivers, Mich., Archie Merriweather of Demopolis, Ernest Thurman of Jefferson, and Ricky (Sandra) Richardson of Linden; three brothers, Charlie Evans of Bellamy, Henry (Julia) Evans of Newbern, and Prince (Gertrude) Evans of Demopolis; an aunt, Dorothy Merriweather of Jefferson; three sisters-in-law; eight grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
