West Alabama midfielder Thibault Charmey was named Gulf South Conference Player of the week for the second straight week. Charmey is the first men’s soccer player to earn the honor consecutively.
The Paris native extended the Tiger’s (5-0-1; 3-0-1) unbeaten streak to five matches on Friday with two goals and an assist in a 3-2 win against in-state conference foe Alabama-Huntsville. His assist was a game-tying effort in the 74′ while his second goal proved the game-winning score in the 82′.
Charmey then helped the Tigers to its third straight victory with a 3-2 home win over Union on Sunday. The wins puts the Tigers in the second spot in the conference standings.
Charmey and the Tigers will now take to the road to face current GSC leader Shorter University (4-1-0; 4-0) on Friday. The match is set for 6 p.m. in Rome, Ga.
