June Newsome McNeill Barnes, 80, of Demopolis, died Thursday, Sept. 26 at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 19, 1932, in Selma to Wincel Newsome and Gertrude Newsome Long. She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wincel Newsome and Gertrude Newsome Long; and son, Ralph Henry “Skip” McNeill Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas H. Barnes of Demopolis; daughter, Teresa McNeill of Demopolis; sons, Kim S. McNeill of Demopolis and Fred W. McNeill of Moundville; step-brother, Toby Newsome; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. at Demopolis First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Willis officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel directing. Burial will follow at Demopolis Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27.

Pallbearers will be TJ Turner of Trussville, Walker McNeill of Demopolis, Tony Quarles of Forkland, Russell Copeland of Demopolis and John Scarbrough of Demopolis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald McNeill, Patrick McNeill, Lamar Turner and Tommy Criswell.
