DHS dual enrollment deadline approaching

Students at Demopolis High School have one more reason to be thankful for what they have received this year.

AT&T has joined other Demopolis area organizations such as RockTenn and Rotary Club to support the dual enrollment program with a generous $10,000 donation. The donation means more opportunities for students who want to earn early college credits with UWA.

Registration for the program at DHS will be Monday, Dec. 16 from 7:30-11:30 a.m. in the school library.

The University of West Alabama provides scholarships for dual enrollment, which reduces tuition to around half of what it would normally be, and the grant from AT&T and donations from other businesses mean additional amounts that students are refunded at the end of each semester.

These donations have made the program more affordable than before, so more students will have the opportunity to participate, according to Demopolis Higher Education Center Director Angelia Mance.

In addition to there being more donations this year, the requirements for admission have also changed. Instead of a student needing an ACT score of 19 and a ‘B’ average in school, they can now qualify with a 19 on the ACT or a ‘B’ average.
