After going back-and-forth early on, the Demopolis High School boys and girls basketball teams were able to pull away from Akron during home games Friday. The boys team slowly pulled away after being tied 14-14 after one quarter and leading 35-28 at the break. Demopolis ended up winning the game 81-66, breaking a five-game losing streak. Kiante’ Jeffries led the Tigers with 24 points, while Roderick Davis had 21. Two other Demopolis players finished with double-digits — Demetrius Kemp added 12 and Tyler Perkins netted 10.

The girls game stayed tight into the third quarter, when the Lady Tigers started to enforce its will. After going into the locker room trailing Akron 24-21 at halftime, Demopolis came back shooting lights out in the third, which included a 12-0 run.

The Lady Tigers would go on to win the contest 60-43. Caleb Washington lead Demopolis with 24 points, while Ivery Moore added another 16. Akron’s Dequanda Lyles led all scorers with 30 points.

Demopolis teams will travel to Greenville next week for an area matchup Tuesday.
