UWA men’s tennis wins matchup of ranked teams

The 23rd ranked University of West Alabama men’s tennis team dominated No. 24 Ouachita Baptist, 8-1, Saturday at the Delta State Tennis Courts on the DSU campus.

The Tigers won two of three doubles matches and swept the singles competition in its ninth consecutive win to improve to 13-1 on the season and remain a perfect 6-0 on the road. UWA returns home to host Indianapolis on Friday. OBU dropped to 3-4.

The highlight of the match for UWA was Anton Ivanov, who is presently unranked, knocking off Vito Oliveira, the No. 19 singles player in the country at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-4. Also winning their singles matches were Nestor Vargas, Adam Drysdale, Simon Bardell, Kike Ruiz and Manuel Grossmann.

Vargas and Ruiz won at No. 2 doubles, 8-6, while Bardell and Grossman cakewalked through N0. 3 doubles, 8-0. OBU’s lone win came at No. 1 singles, where the No. 3 ranked doubles team of Marko Bakovic and Oliveira defeated Drysdale and Ivanov.
