West Alabama women’s soccer head coach Graeme Orr announced the addition of four more signees to the 2014 squad Tuesday.
Haleigh McDuff, Shannon Markey, Taylor Brackin and Chelsea Commings will join the squad next season after being signed.
“This is certainly an exciting day for us to introduce this versatile group to our family,” said UWA head women’s soccer coach Graeme Orr. “These players have a tremendous opportunity in front of them at UWA and you can tell from their comments they are eager to get started right away and I love that attitude.”
Commings, a native of Gadsden, joins the Tigers by way of Gadsden City High School. Her previous teams include the Vestavia Hills Soccer Club. A fast and versatile athlete, she is capable of filling multiple positions on the pitch.
Brackin comes from Faith Academy High School in Semmes. Before attending Faith Academy, she was at Battlefield High School in Haymarket, Va., where she led the Bobcats to the State Championship Game and a No. 1 ranking by the Washington Post.
The defender has also worked her way through the club leagues, earning the Washington Area Girls Soccer League U17 Division Champions with Northern Virginia Soccer Club. She has also earned playing time in the Elite Clubs National League with the Birmingham United Soccer Association.
Markey and McDuff will both join the Tiger’s midfield next season. Markey, a native of Birmingham, will graduate from John Carroll Catholic High School, while McDuff comes from Springstead High School in Spring Hill, Fla.
Markey has also made appearances with the Birmingham United Soccer Association, as well as the Birmingham Legends Club. McDuff comes to UWA by way of the Tampa Chargers Elite Soccer Club.
