Sharon Barkley wins term as revenue commissioner

Sharon Barkley was elected to a term as Marengo County Revenue Commissioner.

She won with 5,353 votes (77.55 percent) to Chuck Barkley’s 1,550 votes (22.45 percent).

“I am honored and overwhelmed. It’s a privilege to be the Marengo County Revenue Commissioner,” Sharon Barkley said. “I am humbled by the numbers.”

Barkley, an Alabama Certified Tax Administrator, resides in Calvary with her husband, Glenn Barkley.

“I want to thank the citizens of Marengo County for electing me,” Barkley said. “I will continue to work hard for them.”

Barkley was appointed revenue commissioner by Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley in September 2012 after Bo McAlpine retired.

After coming in second, Chuck Barkley congratulated Sharon on her win.

“I want to thank all of my supporters,” he said.
