Four from UWA named Preseason Division II All-Americans

Quarterback Kyle Caldwell, running back Javae Swindle, wide receiver Chad Toocheck and tight end Ty Morgan have been tabbed as 2014 Preseason Division II All-America selections by two separate publications.

USA College Football named Caldwell, Swindle and Toocheck as first team selections, while tight end Ty Morgan was a second team choice. Beyond Sports Network named Caldwell and Swindle to their preseason second team and Toocheck as a third team preseason All-American.

A regional finalist for the 2013 Harlon Hill Trophy, Caldwell led West Alabama’s 2013 offense, which led the GSC in scoring (49.5) and total offense (539.1). The senior from Dadeville led the GSC in passing (206.5), passing touchdowns (28), total offense (245.7) and passing efficiency (184.2) on the way to being voted by league coaches as the Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

Swindle was named to the 2013 First Team Don Hansen All-Super Region Two Team after leading the GSC in rushing with 1,296 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also led the GSC with 13 total touchdowns and was second in GSC in scoring (TDs) at 7.1 points per game. The junior from Thorsby set the UWA record for yards rushing in a game with 280 against North Alabama on the way to being an all-conference selection.

A senior from Medina, Ohio, Toocheck led UWA with 43 receptions for 729 yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging 16.95 yards per reception. Morgan had six receptions for 131 yards and two touchdowns while averaging team-high 21.8 yards per reception. Both were All-GSC picks.

West Alabama opens the 2014 season Sept. 6 at Stillman in Tiger Bowl 2014. Kickoff is currently set for 3 p.m. at Stillman Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Tigers open the home portion of the schedule Sept. 13 at Tiger Stadium against Shaw University at 6 p.m. The GSC opener is Oct. 4 at West Georgia.
