Esther Pearl Cooper Tackett

Esther Pearl Cooper Tackett, 92, of Marion Junction, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19.

She was born in Demopolis on March 27, 1922. She was the third of four children born to Anson Wood Cooper and Alma Pearl McElroy Cooper.

She grew up in Demopolis, graduating from Demopolis High School in 1940. After graduation, she became a Registered Nurse, graduating from St. Margaret’s School of Nursing in Montgomery. In 1959, she married James Louis Tackett and he preceded her in death in 1984.

“MeMe’s” greatest joy in life was her family and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca Anne Tackett of Selma, Elizabeth Tackett (Edward) Griffin of Marion Junction, Teresa Tackett (Dennis) Willett of Millbrook and Susan Tackett (Robert) Hunter of Selma; grandchildren, Stephen Kincaid (Julie) Hunter, Jason Cooper (Nikki) Hunter, Julia Griffin (Matthew) Parris, Deborah Elizabeth Griffin, Edward Lamar (Micha) Griffin Jr., and Pamela Griffin (Marco) Arroyo; and great-grandchildren, Emily, Sam, Jackson, Witt, Pacey, Cort, Tristan, Tucker, Nikole, Katherine, Christian and Marco.

She is also survived by her sister, Annie Ruth Cooper Stephens of Metarie, La.; nieces and nephews, William Van (Mary Blair) Tassel, Joyce VanTassel (Art) Mawhinney, Michael Anson (Susan) Cooper, Angela Cooper (William) Allen, Julie Stephens and Jane Stephens; and a number of great nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Esther was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Wood Tackett; brother, Anson Wood Cooper Jr.; sister, Alma Wood Cooper; and grandson, Adam Louis Griffin.

We are extremely thankful for and grateful to her wonderful caregivers and friends “Angel” Willett, Geneva Frith, Everline Pope and Melissa Stokes and to her Courtyard Apartment family. They are forever in our hearts and family for their gracious loving care of MeMe.

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 22 from 6-8 p.m. at Lawrence Brown Funeral Home. Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 23 at 1:30 p.m. in Marion Junction Methodist Church with the Rev. Cory Horton officiating.
