West Alabama men’s soccer spent it’s weekend serving the local community by participating in Demopolis’s Elite Soccer Fest on Saturday, Aug. 23.

“It’s very important for our athletes to give back to our community,” said UWA head men’s soccer coach Matthew Thorne. “Our Athletic Director Stan Williamson strongly encourages all athletes to be involved in community work. As board members of Demopolis Elite Soccer Club, UWA soccer coaches Graeme Orr, Hollie Loud, Bart Markel and I are just trying to grow the ‘beautiful game’ in this community.”

Soccer Fest is an opportunity for kids to play games of 3-vs.-3 and have a fun introduction to playing soccer, and also to register for the Fall Season. A Free Youth 2 Module (Y2M) Coaching Clinic was held for parents to learn more about the game, or to help coach their children in soccer.
