A murder mystery dinner theater will be held in Demopolis on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m.

“Murder Ahoy” will be presented by the Canebrake Players and the Marengo County Historical Society at the Demopolis Civic Center.

Susanna Naisbett will make her debut as a director with this show.

“I’m really excited,” Naisbett said. “I’m getting my feet wet with this show. I had a little bit of this experience with ‘Dixie Swim Club,’ and I think I like this side of performances more than being a cast member.”

Dinner for the event will be prepared and served by Andi Turberville’s Culinary Arts I classes at Demopolis High School.

“I’m probably more excited about that than the show as a whole,” Naisbett said. “That will be really neat and add a fun aspect to the show.”

The students will serve chicken spectacular, tomato feta salad, rolls, dessert, and water or tea. The event is also BYOB if people want to bring their own drinks.

The show is set at a 30-yard reunion of Broken-Rattan High School, which turns deadly when petty jealousies and old grudges are renewed. Former cheerleaders and sisters, Hollandaise and Bernaise Soss, plan a killer reunion aboard the cruise ship, Thanatos. The show is fast-paced and filed with outrageous characters and lines.

Naisbett said the show will last about an hour, and the entire dinner will last about two hours.

Tickets are $25 and are available at the Canebrake Craft Corner next to Bluff Hall. They can be ordered by calling (334) 289-9644 or by emailing marengohistory@bellsouth.net. Cash and checks are the preferred methods of payment for the tickets.

“I really think people will enjoy it,” Naisbett added. “We’ve got a great cast, and it’ll be a lot of fun. We hope to pack the house.”
