SSCC registering for spring classes at DHEC

Shelton State Community College has begun registration for its second semester of classes at the Demopolis Higher Learning Center with even more options available.
SSCC began offering classes at the DHEC in August. The community college is also beginning the second year of its truck driver training program in Demopolis. Currently, the program is held at the old New Era building and officials are looking to expand that program in the near future.
Options at the Higher Education Center include academic courses for degree seeking students. Classes are available for dual enrollment, transfer, and program completion. Additionally, credit and non-credit courses are taught in a variety of areas to promote job preparation and personal development.
“With a continued focus on providing services to the West Alabama community, the college’s presence at the Demopolis Higher Education Center supports the commitment to student academic success, ongoing training, and workforce development.,” said Mike Fields, SSCC’s Director of Workforce Outreach.
SSCC is offering academic and technical classes for the spring semester. Academic classes include General Psychology on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m.; Intermediate College Algebra on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 to 11:15 a.m.; Music Appreciation on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; English Composition I on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m.; and Principles of Biology I on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 11:15 a.m. with a lab on Tuesdays form noon to 2 p.m.
Technical classes being offered are Applied Electrical Computation on Mondays from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. or from noon to 2 p.m.; Concepts of Direct Current on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., or from noon to 2 p.m.

Also being offered during the spring semester are personal enrichment classes, which are non-credit, short-term classes. Those classes include: Introduction to Drawing Techniques, which will include three sessions on Jan. 20, 27 and Feb. 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Introduction to Watercolor, made up of four sessions on Feb. 10, 17, 24, and March 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Advanced Watercolor, also four session on March 9, 23, 30, and April 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Acrylic or Oil Painting, three session on April 13, 20, and 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Digital Photography-Introduction, four sessions on Jan. 21, 28, and Feb. 4, 11, from 1 to 3 p.m.; and Digital Photography-Intermediate, made up of four session on Feb. 18, 25, and March 3 and 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. For more information on these classes call 205-391-2386 or email to rwaldrop@sheltonstate.edu.
Also being offered at the DHEC will be Phlebotomy Technician Training with classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays beginning March 8 through May 17, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. as well as Medical Adminstrative Assistant to be held March 22 through May 10 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9:30 p.m. For more information on these classes call 205-391-2434 or email to mfalls@sheltonstate.edu.
