Westside Elementary School principal Connie Brown was named the 2009 Hugh A. Lloyd Excellence in Education Award winner at the Demopolis City Schools Foundation’s 14th annual Appreciation Celebration.
DCSF shows appreciation to city schools supporters

DEMOPOLIS The Demopolis City Schools Foundation held its 14th annual “Appreciation Celebration” banquet on Thursday to recognize those who made donations to the organization which benefits Demopolis City Schools.
The highlight of the program was the presentation made to Westside Elementary School principal Connie Brown, who earned the Hugh A. Lloyd Excellence in Education Award.
Westside Elementary has had a number of success stories during the 2008-09 school year, including being the only school in Alabama to earn the international Exemplary Reading Award for having the best reading program in the state.
DCSF vice president Kim Townsend served as the master of ceremonies. Demopolis mayor Mike Grayson gave opening remarks, and the Rev. Art Luckie of the First United Methodist Church of Demopolis gave the pre-luncheon invocation.
Kelley Smith and Diane Brooker, who serve on the 2008-09 DCSF board of directors, handed out awards to the honorees.
Jay Reynolds, representing the John C. Webb III and Marie Suttle Webb Foundation Inc., received the chair award for making a donation to the Chair level, a cumulative contribution of $25,000. Terry Hadaway of Georgia-Pacific and Carl Wright of RockTenn each received lamps for their companies making donations to the Executive level ($5,000 or more).
Earning awards for giving to the Patron level ($1,000 or more) were Robertson Banking Company, Claud and Cindy Neilson, Foster Farms, Carolyn S. McCormick, Wallace Wood Products, Alabama Civil Justice Foundation, Rotary Club of Demopolis, Drew and Genida Johnson, Woody and Joy Collins, Dan and Vickie Wilson, Louise Webb Reynolds and Regions Bank.
Earning awards for giving to the Partner level ($500 or more) were Fred and Mary Rutledge, Marengo Insurance Agency, Joel and Jayne Colgrave, Richard S. Manley, Prystup Packaging, John Cox Webb IV, Frank and Lucette Osborne, Patty Horton, Jackson-Newell Foundation, M.S. and Lynn Brasfield III, Billy and Betsy Coplin, Higley and Paula Parr, Amelia Traeger, Isaac and Liz Espy and Travis and Linda Burnham.
