Lehning named ASCC interim director
Published Wednesday, June 3, 2009
Alabama Southern Community College has begun the process to seek a director for the Demopolis campus. John Lehning, an instructor on the Demopolis campus, has been named interim coordinator.
“Our classes started (Wednesday), so we needed someone to fill that role as soon as possible,” said Stephanie Pettis, the director of public information for the ASCC system. “In the meantime, we are reviewing the steps that we need to follow in order to fill that position permanently.”
Former Demopolis campus director Angelia Mance resigned from that position earlier this month to become the director for the Center for Business and Economic Services at the University of West Alabama. Mance was the director of the ASCC campus for two years.
Pettis said the search process is still in the early stages.
“Any time that we have to hire someone or fill a position, those positions have to be approved, so it is a fairly lengthy process,” she said. “Angelia taught some courses for us, so we need to know if that job description will change at all. If it does change, then we have to have that approved by the Department of Post-Secondary Education.
“Because John (Lehning) is very capable and does have a background in management, we knew that he would be an excellent fit for that right now. Thankfully, he was able to step in and fill that role greatly for us.”
