The Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State Softball Team includes nine Marengo Academy players who received at least honorable mention recognition.

The honors, which are broken up by classification, saw four Marengo County players earn first-team honors and five garner an honorable mention slot.

At the Class 5A level, Demopolis High sophomore Kristin Beach, who split time between second base and shortstop during the year, took home honorable mention as a utility player.

In Class 1A, Sweet Water sophomore outfielder Tondalaya Dockery received first team recognition as did senior teammate Chelsea Luker.

Sweet Water seniors Melanie Curtis and Latoya Williams each grabbed an honorable mention position.

In the AISA, Marengo Academy third baseman Abbey Huckabee took first team while teammate Amber Walker finished out her career as the AISA’s first team designated hitter.

Senior outfielder Chelsea Etheridge and pitcher Michelle Pritchett each received honorable mention notoriety.

Huckabee, a Southern Union signee, also took an individual award as the AISA Hitter of the Year. Huckabee finished her season for the state runner-up Lady Longhorns with a .471 batting average, two triples, five home runs, 10 doubles, 30 RBIs, a .565 on-base percentage and an .886 slugging percentage.
