Friday Update: Saraland to extend job offer to Vickers
Published Thursday, June 18, 2009
The Saraland Board of Education voted Thursday night to extend an offer to Dr. L. Wayne Vickers with the intent of hiring him on as the school district's Superintendent of Education.
Vickers, reached via phone Thursday night, said he has yet to hear from the board following its meeting and declined further comment.
The board voted to extend a contract with a salary of $125,000 annually, plus "perks." The board declined to elaborate on the definition of "perks" or their monetary value.
Saraland Attorney Bob Campbell told the Citronelle Call News Thursday night that he hoped to have a signed contract no later than Tuesday and would like to have Vickers in place no later than July 15.
The length of the contract has yet to be determined but is expected to be between three and four years.
The total value of Vickers' contract offer will not be finalized until Campbell and Vickers are able to meet, Campbell told the Call News, which Campbell said he hopes to have accomplished by the weekend.
Among the things to be worked out in the negotiation, other than the length of contract, are finalizing the salary, "perks" and relocation expenses.

Good luck to Dr. Vickers in his new role in Saraland. Now, the Demopolis Board has an opportunity to find someone who wants to be in Demopolis for the long-run!

Praise God! Vickers was NOT the man to take us to the next level. Those on the inside know what I'm talking about. Let's let the Board do their job; they will have much to think about. God Bless em!

The Demopolis school system is taking a great loss. Wayne Vickers is a highly intelligent and ethical individual. However, school systems are very political and losing great leaders is common when they do not fall in with group in control. As always Wayne, I wish you the very best. I know you and I have confidence that you will always be a success.

Just curious "going2, but how did our board not let him do his job here? The fact is, Vickers has never stayed at any job more than two years, and we were just his first stop as a superintendent. (This comment has been edited by the staff. Reason: Defamatory)
