Proceeds from bazaar to benefit missions

— The First United Methodist Church is hosting its annual bazaar on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in both of the church’s buildings.

While shoppers can find all kinds of bargains, prizes and Christmas gifts, their support goes to the United Methodist Women in support of the church’s missions.

A favorite part of the bazaar is the luncheon, to be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those who want to dine in can get the lunch in the church’s fellowship hall in the new building, while those who want take-out can pick their lunches up at the kitchen on the bottom floor of the older educational building.

“They’ll have chicken salad plates,” said bazaar co-chair Jennifer Jordan. “That consists of a scoop of chicken salad, pimento cheese sandwiches, a sliced peach, chips, a drink and dessert, all for just $8.”

Those who want to order a take-out lunch should call the church at 289-1933.

The bazaar itself has a wide variety of gifts and goodies.

“As in the past, we will have the home accents room, which has a lot of the homemade crafts,” Jordan said. “We will also have some baby items, linens, towels and other things, like candles and wreaths, that are not homemade. We also have attic treasures, the bake room and the silent auction room.

“Something new this year is that the Hispanic ministries has started a new UMW circle, which is wonderful. We are very excited that they wanted to be a part of the bazaar. They will have some crafts for sale as well.”

One special feature of the bazaar is the handmade afghan made by Joyce Barnes that will be raffled off.

“She has made these for years,” Jordan said. “Tickets will go on sale for $1 each, and the drawing will be held at 4:00. The afghan is hanging in the church, if anybody wants to see it.”

The bazaar is the main fund-raiser of the year for the UMW.

“All of the money will go towards missions,” Jordan said. “We have some local missions, some national missions and international missions. The money will go to help women, children and youth on our missions around the world.

The First United Methodist Church bazaar is an annual tradition for many people in this area. It is a way get some great gifts and goodies and support the church’s missions at the same time.

The church is located at 200 E. Decatur St. in Demopolis. For more information, call the church at 289-1933.
