DEMOPOLIS Students at U.S. Jones Elementary School are pooling their resources to collect money to help with the relief effort following the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on Jan. 12.
The students began collecting money for more than two weeks, bringing in their own money to help others in need.
“I got money from my checking account,” said Aidan Skelton.
“We just started finding pennies and dollars and things and bringing it,” said Breanna Rice.
The students said they felt good about helping the people in Haiti and using what they have to help others.
Teachers, administrators and parents have also made contributions to the relief effort through the American Red Cross.
Through Tuesday, the students had collected $1,028.31, and the collection is ongoing.
Anyone wanting to make a contribution to the relief effort is asked to contact the American Red Cross or go to www.redcross.org.
