DHEC hosts registration on campus Monday

Published Friday, January 15, 2010

The Demopolis Higher Education Center held its registration for the Spring 2010 semester on Monday, the same day that classes began at the educational facility.

DHEC and its managing partner, the University of West Alabama, extended their registration dates after closing both campuses last Thursday and Friday due to the harsh weather last week.

Several students who enrolled for the spring included high school students taking part in the Center’s dual enrollment program.

Rem Keen and Fallon Keen, a brother and sister who are also seniors at Demopolis High School, enrolled for their fourth semester in the dual enrollment program. They both signed up for the Introduction to Art class.

“They were among the first students to come over and take part,” said their father, Dr. Peter Keen. “I think it’s a great program. It gives them a chance to get a feel of what college is like, and what is expected of them.”

Dr. Keen said his children were interested in enrolling at the University of Alabama or Samford University after graduation. Both are interested in a career in medicine, particularly dermatology.

Brittany Bryant and Laura Catherine Morgan, both seniors at Demopolis High School, enrolled in a speech class for the spring semester.

It was the second semester in the dual enrollment program for both students. Bryant said she planned on attending Southern Union, while Morgan said she was going to Shelton State following graduation.
