Nettie Resse Smyly, 74, of Linden, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at Woodhaven Manor Nursing Home.

Services were held on Friday, April 25, 2002 at Forest Hill Baptist Church in Linden with Rev. Don Newton officiating.

Burial was held at the New Octagon Cemetery under the direction of O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home.

Mrs. Symly was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church. She was the past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Linden VFW, and past secretary, past Sunday School teacher and past choir member at Forest Hill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Smyly.

She is survived by her husband, Ruben J. Smyly Jr. of Linden, a daughter, Charlotte (Don) Criswell of Forkland; a son, Warren (Jill) Smyly of Tuscaloosa; a daughter, Denise (Larry) Hart of Greensboro; a sister, Fannie M. Agee od Chatom; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ken Smyly, Peyton Smyly, Judson Smyly, Jimmy Griffith, Bob Carroll and Colby Rowley.

Honorary pallbearers were the Ladies Sunday School class at Forest Hill Baptist Church, the staff of Southland Nursing Home, the staff of Comfort Care Hospice, the staff of the Woodhaven Nursing Home, and the Lucy Curry Sunday School class of Stancel Baptist Church in Reform.
