Marengo County Commissioner Max Joiner defeated challenger Roosevelt Landrum Jr. for the District Five seat in the June 25 runoff election.

Joiner received 860 votes, and Landrum earned 675.

Landrum had won the crowded June 4 primary for the district seat.

In the highly contested race for the Seventh U.S. Congressional District in Alabama, challenger Artur Davis gained more votes than incumbent Earl Hilliard in Marengo County.

Davis received 2,398 votes to Hilliard’s 1,910.

The entire vote from the seventh district was not known at press time.

State Representative, District No. 72 (including a portion of Marengo County): Andrew Hayden, 641 and Bobby Singleton, 511;

U.S. Senate: Susan Parker, 2,589 and Julian McPhillips, 1,395. Current State Auditor Parker was headed for a state-wide victory for the Democratic nomination at press time;

State Treasurer: Stephen Black, 2,225 and Carol Jean Smith, 1,619;

Secretary of State: Nancy L. Worley, 2,030 and Chris Pitts, 1,277;

State Auditor: Carolyn Gibson, 2,491, and Debbie Tucker Corbett, 1,178;

Republican

State Treasurer: Kay Ivey, 63, and Wallace, 39;

Secretary of State Dave Thomas, 62, and Dean Young, 38;

State Auditor: Jim Zeigler, 52, and Beth Chapman, 49.
