Miller and Co. of Demopolis will officially close its doors on August 30 as a downsizing measure for the privately-owned corporation headquartered in Selma.

According to Lee Wilson, plant manager, just the Demopolis plant is affected. Both the Selma and York lumber companies will remain in operation.

The Demopolis plant, which began production in 1955, is scheduled to close all its facilities except the wood yard, which will remain open for inventory purposes and to ship lumber to customers and inter-company.

Approximately 40 positions will be eliminated with the August 30 closing.

After the downsizing, 11 to 12 positions are expected to remain in Demopolis, and some positions may be transferred to the Selma and York facilities.

The MICO Log and Timber office, which oversees land and timber, will also remain open in Demopolis.

According to company officials, Robert Buchanan, general manager, will release a statement shortly.
