GREENSBORO &045; Scott Barton can’t vote yet, but Gov. Don Siegelman knows it’s people like Barton who will make up the future of Alabama and the industries important to this state.

The unlikely duo collided paths Saturday during the 15th annual Alabama Catfish Festival.

Barton, a 7-year-old from Sprott, sat in some bleachers watching the Miss Catfish Pageant, while Siegelman worked his way through the crowd, hoping to gain votes for his re-election bid in November.

Asked why he was in Greensboro, his answer was simple: "I like to eat catfish."

Siegelman knows the importance of agriculture in Alabama, and he used Saturday’s event to plug a new initiative called "Buy Alabama."

Part of the Buy Alabama initiative is to label all products made here with a sticker much like the ones that say "Made in the USA."

Besides Barton and Siegelman, thousands of people line Lion’s Park in Demopolis to enjoy rides and sample catfish.
