Demopolis

Neva Wells Harper, 91, of Demopolis, died Monday, February, 24, 2003, at Woodhaven Manor Nursing Home.

Services will be held at 10.a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2003, at Mt. Carmel Methodist Church with rev. Don Smith and Tony Cannon officiating.

Burial will be held in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery under the direction of Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Harper.

She is survived by three daughters, Rebecca Leonard of Demopolis, Eloise (Gene) Wilkerson of Demopolis and Joyce (Bobby) Long of Fairhope; three sons, Frank (Dorothy) Harper of Uniontown, Russell (Pat) Harper of Mobile and Ben (Dee) Harper of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina; a sister, Lettie Brady of Selma; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Ben Harper, Dan Harper, Chris Harper, Lee Elliott, Stan Long, David Orem, Scott Harper, Tony Spires and Cody Key.

William Henry "Bill" Powell Jr.

Linden

William Henry "Bill" Powell Jr, 85, of Linden, died Thursday, February 20, 2003, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Miss.

Services were held Sunday, February 23, 2003, at the O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden with Rev. Billy Harris officiating.

Burial was held in the Concord Cemetery in Yantley, Ala.

He was born August 29, 1917 in Yantley, Ala. He was a retired insurance agent with Liberty National Life Insurance.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army and was a graduate of Mississippi Southern College.

Mr. Powell was a member of Linden Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the Linden Lions Club and a supporter of local and community activities. He was know as a big hunter and a big talker.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Powell; his mother, Cora Rainer; two sisters, Frances Powell and Helen Powell Crenshaw; and three brothers, George Powell, Gilbert Powell and Preston Powell.

He is survived by his wife, Sue F. Powell of Linden; two daughters, Linda Powell (David) Phillips of Atlanta, Ga. and Helen Powell (Donald) Lauderdale of Livingston; a son, William H. "Billy" (Janice) Powell III of Linden; a brother, James Powell of Butler; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Andrew Phillips, Jeff Wagner, Daniel Lauderdale, Don Lauderdale Jr., Johnathan Mize, Wes Powell and Will Powell.

Honorary pallbearers were Charles Gross, Laymon ‘Skeeter" Yelverton, Ronnie Glass, Lee Henderson, John Wilson, J.D. Flowers, Bradley Gaddy, Marvin Tucker, Larry Tucker, Tommy Tucker, members of the Linden Lions Club and members of the Men’s Sunday School Class at Linden Baptist Church.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be sent to the American Heart Association, Sunny Brook Children’s Home or the donor’s favorite charity.

Gallion

Isom Jefferies, 54, of Gallion, died Saturday, February 15, 2003, ay Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

Services were held Saturday, February 22, 2003, at the Evening Star Baptist Church in Gallion with Rev Laymon Hardy officiating.

Burial was held in the church cemetery under the direction of Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors.

He is survived by a loving daughter, Patricia Williams Richardson of Chicago, Ill.; a step-mother, Mrs. Lucille Jeffries Carter of Demopolis; four sisters, Mrs. Emma J. (John) Gibbs of Demopolis, Mrs. Marie (Tim) White of Norfolk, Va., Mrs. Tracy (Calvin) Davis of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. Shakirah Lisa (Siraaj) Tajuddin of Burkville, Ala.; seven brothers, three who preceded him in death, Jake Rowser, Willie Jeffries and Grover Jeffries Sr., Henry (Minnie) Jeffries Jr., Randle (Farris) Jeffries III of Chicago and Broderick Jeffries of Demopolis; one step-sister, Mrs. Bobbie (Jerry) Mitchell of Demopolis; three step-brothers, Billy Ray Jeffries of Montgomery, Ray C. Hollis of Toledo, Ohio and Tony (Abbie) Hollis of Demopolis; 10 nieces; 13 nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Howard Giles

Forkland

Howard Giles, 50, of Forkland, died Thursday, February 13, 2003, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

Services were held Saturday, February 22, 2003 at the First United Baptist Church in Forkland with Rev. Joe Webb officiating.

Burial was held in the church cemetery under the direction of Larkin and Scott Funral Directors.

He is survived by a loving and devoted wife of 29 years, Ethel Giles; a son, Vincent; four brothers, Willie (Genevieve) Jenkins, James (Vera) Giles, John (Rita) Giles, all of Chicago, Ill., and Roosevelt (Veronica) Jenkins of Lutcher, La.; one sister, Mary Prater of Forkland; a mother-in-law, Mrs. Helen McIntosh of Detroit, Mich.; a father-in-law, Walter (Alice) McIntosh of Demopolis; six aunts; and one uncle.

Mamie Bruce-Johnson

Mrs. Mamie Bruce-Johnson, 69, of Linden, died Sunday, February 23, 2003, at her residence.

Services will be held at noon on Friday, February 28, 2003, at Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Joseph Harper officiating.

Buiral will be held in McKinley Memorial Gardens in Linden under the direction of Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors.

She is survived by a devoted husband, Pinky Johnson of Linden; four devoted children, Inet (Carolyn) Gray of Linden, Sibyl V. McKinley of Rex, Ga., Willie (Jeanette) Gray, and Moses E. Bruce Jr. of Linden; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Jessie Mae Lockett; one brother, Alfonse Kimbrough; one devoted brother-in-law, John (and Mary) Bruce of Panama City, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Millie Campbell, 86, of Boligee, died Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at her residence. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors.
