Moundville&045;&045;The Demopolis Lady Tigers competed in the Hale County Invitational this weekend and won both of their games in the four team event.

Demopolis defeated Greensboro and Hale County to win the tournament. Hale County defeated American Christian to advance to the championship game.

Greensboro defeated ACA in the consolation game

Game 1

Demopolis 11, Greensboro 0

Demopolis (3-2) started its offensive attack in the second inning and never looked back as it defeated the Lady Raiders of Greensboro.

Brittany Thorne started the rally with a walk that was followed by an India Chancelor single. After Kelly Keasler was hit by a pitch that loaded the bases, Brittany McGee earned a walk to score Thorne.

Two more runners would cross the plate after a double by Lauren Roark. Katie Simmons then hit a double to round out the scoring in the inning at five runs.

The Lady Tiger offense was unable to score in the next two innings but made up for it in the fifth inning. Timie Lee singled to being the rally.

After walks by Thorne and Chancelor, Heather Wright earned a bases loaded walk to score a run. Keasler then walked to push another run across.

Two runners would score on a wild pitch before Lauren Roark would knock home the final two runs. Greensboro would threaten to score in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the defense held strong.

Lauren Roark (3-0) pitched a complete game for the Lady Tigers. She walked two batters and striking out nine on the way to her second no-hitter of the season.

Leslie Hubbard suffered the loss for Greensboro.

Game 2

Demopolis 5, Hale County 1

Kelly Keasler (1-2) pitched a masterful 15 strikeout game to clinch the tournament title for Demopolis as the Lady Tigers took the lead in the first inning and never looked back.

Keasler limited the Lady Wildcats to only three hits and two walks to earn her first victory of the season. The win moved Demopolis record to 3-2 on the season.

Consecutive walks to Lauren Roark and Katie Simmons started the rally.

After the runners advanced on a passed ball, Timie Lee hit a two-out single that scored both runners to give the Lady Tigers a 2-0 lead.

The second inning would see some additional scoring from the Lady Tigers. Brittany McGee reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to second on the play. She would score on a double by Roark.

After an intentional walk to Simmons, Timie Lee singled in Roark. With the lead 4-0, the Lady Tigers tightened their defensive hold on the game.

Hale County managed a few base runners but none were allowed to cross the plate.

Demopolis would add one final run in the fourth inning.

After a double play, Katie Simmons took a four pitch walk. She would move to second on a passed ball and then to third on a single by Timie Lee.

India Chancelor picked up the RBI with a infield hit.

The Lady Tigers would allow a late run in the sixth inning after a Lady Wildcat doubled to start the inning. The Demopolis team stiffened its defense and shut down the rest of the Lady Wildcats.

Demopolis planned to host Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa Tuesday.

They will travel to Meridian on Friday and Saturday to play in the Clarkdale Invitational.

On Friday they will play at 1 and 5 p.m. Game times for Saturday are 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Northport&045;&045;The Demopolis Lady Tiger Softball team fell to the Lady Wildcats of Tuscaloosa in a 1-0 game.

The pitching duel saw both teams manage two hits each and only three base runners per team.

The lone run in the game came on a one out solo home run by Lady Wildcat shortstop Tara Fair.

Kelly Keasler and Katie Simmons managed the only hits for the Tigers. Keasler (0-2) pitched a complete game in the loss surrendering two hits while walking no one and striking out 11.
