Suspect nabs truck then takes cop’s car

A truck was stolen from Odom Chevrolet in Eutaw Sunday. The theft began a string of events that evening.

According to sales manager Forrest Moore, the truck was stolen at approximately 6 p.m. He was notified of the theft by Eutaw Police at 1 0 p.m.

The unnamed suspect then knocked down a resident’s mailbox on Tuscaloosa Street and Fourth Avenue, said Eutaw Police Chief Reginald Spencer. The suspect also hit an embankment across the road. The truck was gone before police arrived.

The officer investigating the mailbox incident returned to the Eutaw Police Station to write up the report. The same suspect then stole his police car, Spencer said.

Greene County sheriff’s deputies began a search until midnight for the suspect and both vehicles.

The pickup truck was found in a bushy area off Kirksey Avenue, the police chief said. The patrol car was found on a dirt road off Highway 43 south. The suspect is still at large.
