Demopolis escaped a dangerous line of thunderstorms that passed through Mississippi and central Alabama yesterday causing about 50,000 Alabama Power customers to be without electricity during the storm.

Also there was one reported injury and tons of damage along its deadly path yesterday.

Demopolis was under a tornado warning from 10:00 am till 1:16 pm. The county’s emergency system consists of 6 sirens spread out in Demopolis, Linden, Mrytlewood, and Thomaston.

Demopolis had no injuries from this storm and if there was damage it was only minor.

The schools of Marengo County reacted in different ways to this storm.

In Linden, Marengo Academy shut its doors around 10:00 am. In Demopolis, West Alabama Prep shut its doors around 10:00 am also.

Demopolis City Schools such as Westside, US Jones, Demopolis Middle, and Demopolis High had an approach of if the parents wanted to check out their children they could, but the schools remained opened.

Chris Bailey, meteorologist from WAKA 8 said, "This was a very big group of thunderstorms and we got lucky not having a lot of injuries from it. The worst is already behind us, but Marengo County does have a Flash Flood warning in effect till midnight."

Sumter County EMA reported no injuries and little damage, and cleared from its tornado warning around 1:16 pm.

Perry County EMA and Hale County EMA reported no injuries and minor damage, and cleared from its tornado warning at 5 pm.
