A 2003 Dodge Viper lost control Saturday evening on Highway 80 West, ran off the road and overturned. The accident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. between Maria and Hackberry.
The determining circumstance for the accident was speed, said Jeff Manuel, Demopolis public safety director.
The vehicle was traveling west in the outside lane at a speed higher than the speed limit. A slower vehicle was ahead in the same lane, and both vehicles moved into the left lane at the same time.
The Viper swerved to not hit the other vehicle, spinned out of control and landed upside down 459 feet to the edge of the woods, he said.
The driver, Tonya Michelle Vice of Mobile, was taken to Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released, according to hospital officials.
Two wreckers had to be used to turn the vehicle upright and remove it.
Officers Chris McGuiness and Paul Foster investigated the accident.
