Demopolis could be crowned Ultimate Small Town Christmas on Thursday, December 18.

The two-hour A&E special presentation: "Ultimate Holidaytown USA" will air at 8:00 pm on Demopolis CATV channel 31. This special will include the city of Demopolis and 19 other small towns from around America.

The A&E Cable Network asked over 3,000 small towns, with less than 50,000 residents around the country, to submit pictures and footage of past holiday decorations into this special television event dealing with how the town celebrates Christmas. They had over 200 different towns that applied for the chance to create the ultimate small town Christmas celebration.

Demopolis was chosen as one of the final 20, so A&E came to town along with the show’s three-member panel of judges that includes Supermodel Frederique, makeover king David Evangelista, and "The Sopranos’" Vincent Pastore during this year’s Christmas on the River weekend to film our segment for the show.

The A&E channel has been very secretive with the other 19 town’s names, so no one knows who Demopolis is up against. A&E has also been very hush, hush to the media also.

A crew of 13 A&E cameramen and producers came to Demopolis and filmed about 25 hours worth of highlights from the two-day weekend. Everyone from the A&E had a really good time being here.

Whether we win or lose, Demopolis will feel an impact from the exposure on this program.

What kind of impact will the city get if Demopolis wins this special honor? "I think we will feel the effects not only during next Christmas, but all year long. It will surely improve the tourism to this wonderful city," Caldwell said.
